2009 Acura Cars Review
History
Acura made its foray into the American market in 1986, after at least a decade of research. It started with the Integra model, which became an instant super hit. This model was sold through 60 dealerships in18 American states. With this, a new trend of luxury automobile was set. Acura was such a hit in the US that it soon started making a habit of winning awards. One of Acura's earliest models, the four-door Acura Legend coupe, was the first Acura model to introduce an airbag; it won the Import Car of the Year for 1987, while the Integra figured in that year's Ten Best List. The sensational start was sustained in later years with consistency. In 1988, the Legend became the best selling imported luxury model in the US for the second year in a row, even as the Integra won the International Sedan Championship. In 1992, the Acura won the Best Overall Car Line title from JD Power and Associates Vehicle Performance Index. In 1993, the Legend was the best selling import make for the sixth consecutive year. With achievements such as these, the Acura was firmly placed in the US market and in the minds of the consumer as a premier luxury car. Among the prime reasons for this has been its consistency in delivering something innovative in terms of technology. It has many industry-firsts to its credit, such as an all-aluminum car, in-dash satellite-linked navigation system and the VTEC (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) system.

Expansion
The Integra, being Acura's first model, was a top hit. It has symbolized the initial growth curve of this company. Its entry was spectacular having won Car and Driver's Ten Best list in 1986, the Acura Legend went on to win Motor Trend's prestigious Import Car of the Year trophy in 1987. It has since evolved into other models over the years.
